Washington, DC — Yesterday, President-elect Donald Trump named Michael Kratsios as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Sriram Krishnan as a senior policy advisor for AI at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Jason Green-Lowe, executive director of the Center for AI Policy (CAIP), a nonpartisan research organization dedicated to mitigating the catastrophic risks of AI through policy development and advocacy, released the following statement:
"The Center of AI Policy looks forward to working with Michael Kratsios, the newly appointed director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Kratsios previously served as Trump's chief technology officer and is well-versed in national technology policy and the entrepreneurial startup world.
"Sriram Krishnan is a knowledgeable and accomplished technologist. Krishnan has experience as both an investor in small tech startups and a business leader at major firms like Microsoft, Twitter (now X), Yahoo!, and Facebook. His role as co-host of the Aarthi and Sriram Show has kept him well-versed in the emerging challenges and key personalities in artificial intelligence (AI).
"The Center for AI Policy looks forward to working with Kratsios and Krishnan as well as other members of the Trump administration to promote common-sense AI policies that will allow America to seize the opportunities provided by new technology safely. These appointments signal the Trump administration's commitment to an even-handed approach to AI policy. We are excited to help the Trump administration advance a thoughtful approach to AI governance that balances the risks and the rewards from this new frontier."
